Christmas Thank You – 31/12/06

This week sees us enter the second week of the Christmas season. As we do that, I’d like to take the opportunity to thank those people who contributed to our Christmas celebrations.

Our Liturgy Committee again prepared our celebrations for the seasons of Advent and Christmas.

Our Carmelite Community led our liturgy throughout both these seasons.

Sofie Barons was again responsible for the stunning floral arrangements over the past month.

Our Music Ministers spent much time in rehearsal and put themselves at the service of their parish community.

Jim and May Gallacher were the only people who answered the call for help to tidy up the church after 9:00 a.m. Mass last Sunday, and together with Sofie, Judy Kendall and John O’Loughlin, made sure all was ready for the Christmas Masses. In addition, John served as Altar Minister at 4 Masses in less than 24 hours!

Many more parishioners also volunteered – Ministers of the Word, as well as the many other people who were asked to do something on the day; even those who politely declined (unfortunately not everyone was so nice, given it was Christmas) and would have helped if they were in a position to do so.

Finally, our thanks to Santa, for taking time out on Christmas Eve just to visit the kids at Wenty. Unfortunately the poor man was mobbed after 5:00 p.m. Mass and was left rather stressed and worn out with a busy night still ahead of him. Perhaps we as a Catholic community need to make sure we’re teaching our children (to borrow a phrase from the Vinnies) that we “keep Christ in Christmas”.

Enjoy the rest of the Christmas season, and thanks to all.
