22/3/09 – Easter is Coming

We’ve now reached the Fourth Sunday of Lent.  Traditionally, this has been called Laetare Sunday.  In some places, rose coloured vestments are worn.  The liturgical documents also allow for greater use of the organ on this day than on the other Sundays of Lent.  The reason for this is because Laetare Sunday is a day of particular joy, for Easter will soon be upon us.

The entrance antiphon in the missal for this Sunday reads: “Rejoice, Jerusalem! Be glad for her, you who love her; rejoice with her, you who mourned for her, and you will find contentment at her consoling breasts.”

With this Sunday reminding us that Easter is soon upon us, we must make sure we’re well prepared.

Attached to Carmel this weekend is a copy of this year’s Easter Triduum liturgical schedule.  Please put it up on the fridge, and share it with relatives, friends and neighbours who may wish to join us over Easter.

Also in the parish centre you will find posters to sign up for a number of different ministries and roles from Holy Thursday through to Easter Sunday.  Many are still to be filled, including the Washing of Feet (at last count, we were still looking for another 8 people!).  This is our parish, and the many visitors who come along during those days appreciate our hospitality and service.  Please consider how you can assist and sign up today.
