20/1/12 – Children’s Liturgy of the Word Ministry Formation Workshops

Our parish’s liturgical celebrations depend on the generous service of our liturgical ministers.  One of our responsibilities as a parish is to ensure that we provide our ministers with support and resources as they engage in their ministry.

In February, we will be supporting our Ministers of Children’s Liturgy of the Word.  Formation workshops will take place at the following times:

  • Saturday 2 February at 9:45 am in the parish centre, or
  • Tuesday 5 February at 7:30 pm in the parish centre.

Ministers are asked to register in the parish centre to indicate when they will be attending.  Alternatively, you can register online at www.olmcwenty.org.au/clow

At 9:00 am Mass on Sunday 10 February, we will commission our Ministers of the Children’s Liturgy of the Word to serve for the coming year.  Children’s Liturgy of the Word will then commence on Sunday 17 February.

We look forward to being able to support our parishioners in their service to our community.

4/11/12 – Ministry Formation Workshops

Over the last week and a half, Ministers of the Word and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion have participated in their annual formation workshops.

It was pleasing to see so many ministers participate (our last workshop was the biggest with 26 people in attendance).  Some great insights were shared, and hopefully we were able to clear up for ministers a number of “grey areas” that have existed in the past regarding procedures.

Fr Paul would like all ministers to ensure that they have made themselves familiar with the instructions provided for their ministry.  Consistency is important to ensure that the Mass is celebrated well, and so that all ministers can work together confidently.

Ministers will be commissioned to serve for the next year at Sunday Masses this weekend.  Ministers who have participated in the workshops will also be able to collect their certificate and new name badge from the parish centre.  Please note that there are letters for all Ministers of the Word and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to collect.

Thank you to all the ministers who took part.  We appreciate the commitment you make to serving our community.

Parish Mass Settings Workshop

This morning, music ministers from our parish gathered together to learn more about some of the Mass settings that are available and recommended for use.  This is an integral part of the formation we’re providing in our parish as we implement the new English translation of the Roman Missal.

Our parish has generally been using the revised edition of Mass Shalom since the beginning of this year.  After being introduced to several other settings this morning, they can now move ahead with using more settings with their liturgical assemblies.

While our workshop attracted a relatively small number, we had at least one representative from each of our various music groups.  This means that these representatives can take the music back to their groups and start work.

Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning.  I hope you found it to be informative and productive.  Thanks also to Frank, who took a few pics with his iPad.

28/11/10 – Reminders from the Ministers of the Word Workshops

During October, our Ministers of the Word participated in their annual formation workshops.  This week, we are taking a moment to remind you of a few important matters we raised at the workshops.

Organising a replacement reader is essential if you are unable to read or commentate on the date assigned to you on the roster.

The reader is part of the Entrance Procession and carries the Book of Gospels (the large, green book), which is placed on the altar.  The Lectionary (the smaller, brown book) should be placed on the ambo before Mass.

Before each reading, the commentator gives a short introduction.  The reader then names the source of the reading, e.g. “A reading from the first letter of St Paul to the Corinthians”, then proceeds with the reading.  The small excerpt printed before the reading in italics is not read.  There is also no need to announce that it is the “First Reading”, “Second Reading” or even “The Responsorial Psalm”.

The reader does not carry any book out in the recessional at the end of Mass.

Ministers of the Word will also be aware that a new roster is due this weekend.  Please ensure you collect it from the noticeboard near the kitchen window in the parish centre.  From this roster onwards, it will also be available from our website.  We still recommend you collect a copy, however.  This is because phone numbers will not be included on the website edition, out of respect for your privacy.  If you would like to receive an email to advise you when the roster is available, please email Lyn in the parish office at ocarms (at) tpg (dot) com (dot) au

Thank you once again to all the ministers who participated in our workshops.  Your commitment to our parish community and its liturgical celebrations is greatly appreciated.

5/10/08 – Ministry Formation

We are now into the month of October.  The last month has been a wonderful time of celebration, as more than fifty of our young parishioners completed their sacramental initiation into the Catholic Church.

We now take some time during the month of November to focus on some of the liturgical ministries in our parish.

Altar Servers. The time to register to participate in this ministry is now.  We wish to begin the process of forming and training our servers once the school holidays have concluded.  Remember to visit the display in the parish centre, complete a form and place it in the box provided.  This ministry is open to any male or female parishioner who has been fully initiated into the Catholic Church (i.e., has received the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and communion).

Ministers of the Word and Ministers of Communion. Each October, these ministers take time to engage in continuing formation for their ministry.  Attendance at the annual formation workshop is one of the expectations of those who participate in these ministries and is required of every minister.  People interested in becoming a Minister of Communion may also attend the workshop in preparation.  The dates for the workshops are below.

We look forward to being able to support our parishioners in their service to our community as liturgical ministers.
